Sharing some love!

Friday, February 1st, 2008

Thanks to sites like Zazzle and CafePress – I can paint to my heart’s delight, sell the originals to art lovers, and then sell high-resolution prints of them on things like calenders, shirts, yard signs, mugs, bibs, tiles, and hundreds of other useful items. My family can set aside their morbid fear of being trapped in an art gallery (no touchy!), I get to pay my bills, and you get sumpin’ purdy! Woo hoo! A starving artist no more.

The Visitors: Bob & Jane (by Ann!)

Seriously though, I love my CafePress ‘printables’. I have bought several of my own tiles, shirts, and other useful household items (waiting with bated breath for my Bob & Jane apron!!). Another thing besides the prices that I love about CafePress is the superb quality of their products. I have a shirt from there that has been washed a countless number of times over the past couple of years and it has yet to fade.

My compulsion to combine form and function in my work can be traced back to my youthful obsession with MacGyver. After all, if anyone can diffuse a bomb with a squirrel (more…)

It’s Crewel.

Thursday, January 3rd, 2008

Crewel fabric is just plain GORGEOUS! It’s all hand embroidered with this lovely thick hand dyed wool. I have several different colors and patterns that I will be making handbags out of. I’m trying to keep my goal of a bag a day (give or take…). Here is tonight’s finished bag:

Now you can buy KarmaBox merchandise! Wait… uh…

Tuesday, November 20th, 2007

We already sell merchandise… But I’m taking a cue from Nike and Coca-Cola and branding our little company with some fabulous t-shirts for the family. :) Actually, I just found a cool new feature on Zazzle.com and decided to try it out. I may buy a few for myself and my minions. Feel free to show off your Fuzzi love by buying some for yours!

New Fuzzies!

Sunday, November 4th, 2007

I swear sometimes it takes us longer to photograph and list new products than it does to design and make them. So far I have been working on some new Wee Fuzzies and have listed a couple of them on our website. I will get the rest listed as soon as the photos come back in an acceptable fashion… hint hint, you know who you are. I’m cracking that whip! :-P

So many ideas… so little time!

I LOVE designing new Felt Fuzzies! It can be challenging and frustrating at times but the end result is usually very rewarding. Here are some of my latest Custom Fuzzies as well as new additions to our inventory.

  • One of my customers is a brilliant artist – and I mean BRILLIANT! She specializes in fantasy art and is well known for her exquisite illustrations and lively character designs. She requested that I “felt-i-fy” one of her creations, Tanuki Spirit – which is a character in the popular Legend of the Five Rings card game. When I first saw her beautiful illustration, I almost passed out. She certainly knows how to give a gal a challenge! I managed to make something that… kinda… sort of resembled her character… well, as close as I was going to get with felt and thread at least. :)

  • You’ll have to check out her website to see her artwork (http://shamansoulstudios.com). I love his big ol’ belly!
  • Every little girl’s mommy knows Gymboree! There are fan clubs and websites galore dedicated to all things Gymboree. To anyone who hasn’t heard of them – they are a childrenswear company with retail stores around the world. They design the cutest clothing collections but thankfully for me (and other hair accessories designers) they lack somewhat in cute matching hair bows.

Pink Ribbon Fuzzi for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Thursday, October 4th, 2007

I’ve made a new Felt Fuzzi hair clip and 100% of the sales will benefit the Susan G. Komen for the Cure (Dallas County Affiliate) via Mission Fish on eBay (item #330172800411) .  As you may well know, the Komen Foundation is a major organization funding breast cancer research and awareness.  I also have these Fuzzies for sale on my website and the proceeds will go directly to the main organization.  Of course, if you have no need for a Fuzzi – there’s always just heading on over to their site and making a donation!    Pass it on!!

Sunrise

Thursday, September 20th, 2007

I enjoy painting in contrasts – it reflects my life. I figure that once you let go and accept that a good balance of contrasts in life are necessary, things become so much more interesting and relaxing. Just look at a sunrise. Closeup, it’s intense, chaotic, and blindingly powerful. Stand further away, and you begin to see a calm order and soft colors. It completely and effortlessly takes shape – all without strain or stress.

Digitally altered print of an original painting by artist Ann Yin. The original measures 30″ x 24″, acrylic on canvas board and stretched canvas. Prints available for sale at http://www.zazzle.com/karmabox*.

Possessed

Monday, August 20th, 2007

I've been really busy painting. I confess, I'm a binge painter. I tried to do a painting a day but damn, I just don't have that kind of discipline. :-P I will however spend an entire night painting like I'm possessed. That's what it feels like sometimes. Before I paint, I pray that God takes over my hand and brush and bam, 12 hours later I have a ton of paintings. And I lose feeling in my legs. It's like coming out of a very long meditation when I'm done. Weird, eh? I've put these four up for auction and have several more to list. Tomorrow... I hope.

"A Black Bird Eats the Old Sky" - acrylic on a 10" x 10" stretched canvas, 1 3/8 wide gallery profile. This one is based on a dream my son had the other night. A very freaky dream...

These are two in a new series of 4 paintings. I LOVE bright colors. The sides are (more...)

Ann’s Excited… Again.

Tuesday, July 31st, 2007

This time it’s over two of my latest Zazzle creations.  I took this photo of a No Parking Sign in downtown Fort Worth a few years ago and rendered it in Photoshop (obviously).  Now they are gracing the coolest travel coffee mug and mouse pad in the WORLD!  I wish Zazzle gave their sellers a bigger discount because I WANT THESE!  But alas, my mouse rests on a Wacom and I already have an overabundance of coffee mugs.

I may try having them made at CafePress, too.  Now they know how to give discounts.  Oooh, and if I sell some of the mugs I have sitting in my cabinets on eBay…  What was that you say?  Don’t be hasty because I’ll need to sell my massive mug collection to put my kids through college?  Oh yes.  I’ll need to devise another plan.

Meanwhile, lookie lookie!
